Acupuncture, Massage and Cosmetic Services in Jersey

Welcome to the community Acupuncture Clinic for Mental Wellbeing

Community acupuncture is very popular in the UK and USA as it makes acupuncture treatment more affordable, helping to break down class barriers to healthcare. At Transform we love acupuncture, and we think everyone should be able to benefit from it. We strongly believe that acupuncture should be inclusive and not exclusive to those on higher income, afterall stress, anxiety and depression impact us all.

Our community acupuncture clinic focuses on stress, mental and emotional wellbeing because problems in this area are often pre-cursors to more physical illness, and the effects that stress have on our health have been well documented. By focusing treatment on these conditions we hope to reduce this impact so you can get back to being you, and enjoying your lives.

But how can we provide acupuncture so cheaply?

Community acupuncture is experienced in a group setting. All consultations are private and all medical information provided to us in this consultation is kept confidential, but acupuncture treatment is received in a group. You sacrifice your anonymity, but because of this we can treat several people at once, and so keep our time and costs to a minimum. Most people enjoy the social interaction of this, and draw comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their health concerns.

We only use points on the lower arms, lower legs, feet and head to ensure your modesty is maintained, but we may ask you how you have been between treatment's. How much you choose to share in this setting is up to you, and we cannot guarantee that others won't be listening. We advise that if there is anything you do not wish to discuss in front of others, that you send us an email requesting we call you prior to your appointment.

So how does acupuncture help with these conditions?

Studies have shown that acupuncture acts on areas of the brain known to reduce sensitivity to pain and stress, as well as promoting relaxation and deactivating the 'analytical brain' which is responsible for anxiety and worry (Hui 2010; Hui 2009). It has also been shown to reduce blood cortisol levels (Park 2010), and regulates levels of neurotransmitters (or their modulators) and hormones such as serotonin, noradrenaline, dopamine, GABA, neuropeptide Y and ACTH (Lee 2009; Cheng 209; Zhou 2008).

In English this means that it can alter the brains mood chemistry to help combat negative states. It is also thought to activate the parasympathetic nervous system which initiates the relaxation response, as opposed to the sympathetic nervous system which is activated when stressed (Arranz 2007).

Impressive stuff! But what qualifies us to offer this service?

Charlotte has a BSc hons in Acupuncture which is a three and half year degree course covering all aspects of Acupuncture, the theory of Chinese Medicine, anatomy and physiology. This qualifies her to treat stress and emotional issues from a Chinese medicine perspective.

In addition Charlotte has further training in counselling skills (Level 2), counselling studies (level3) and is mid way through her counselling studies level 4, which once completed will make her a qualified counsellor.

Charlotte also has additional CPD training in the treatment of trauma and addiction with acupuncture.

We appreciate that the mental health services in Jersey are in high demand and over stretched, and we hope that by providing this service it can help benefit the community.

So how does it work?

Suffering with stress, anxiety, depression or the effects of these conditions? Then you qualify for our community acupuncture clinic!

Simply get in touch, we'll send you an indepth consultation form and information pack via email, or you can pop into the clinic and pick one up, just let us know your coming first so we can arrange one to be left out for you.

Fill in the forms and book in for a 30 minute consultation (£25) which can be scheduled during the week. The consultation gives us a chance to discuss your main complaint and any medical information, what you would like to gain from acupuncture and answer any of your questions in private. Once this is done you can schedule in for the clinic which is run on Saturday mornings.

You'll receive treatment in a group setting, and be left to relax for 20-30 minutes with the needles in. During this time the acupuncturist will be around treating others or removing needles from other patient's and seeing them out.
