Clinic owner, acupuncturist and counsellor

Charlotte Janes LicAc, BSc hons, MBAcC

Hi, I am Charlotte, your traditional acupuncturist and Integrative counsellor in Jersey, Channel Islands.

I offer traditional, 5 element, trigger point, auricular and cosmetic acupuncture, alongside therapeutic counselling from a beautiful space at 39 Hill Street.

I came across acupuncture in 2008 when I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis, a rather unpleasant condition which meant that my stomach was not working the way that it should. I was not digesting my food properly and could only eat once a day. It was the result of an infection, and I was told that while the condition is not usually progressive, I might have it for the rest of my life. I was given medication to help with nausea and to try to speed up the digestive process, but after several months of taking it there was no change. I needed to regain some quality of life and so I decided to try an alternative approach which started with acupuncture.

I was astounded, after a few minutes of having the needles in, I felt a shift in my stomach, my stomach started to gurgle, and I was able to eat a second time that day. What was even better, every time I had acupuncture the same thing happened! I was fascinated, hugely relieved, and decided I had to find out more about this amazing and wonderful medicine! (Ooh, and my stomach eventually started working properly!)

I enrolled to study acupuncture in 2009 and I graduated from the College of Integrative Chinese medicine in Reading, Berkshire, back in 2012 with a Batchelor of Science degree in acupuncture. Since then I have built a thriving practice in Jersey, Channel Islands, and have recently qualified as an integrative counsellor which I have been using as a stand-alone therapy and in combination with my acupuncture practice.

What else is there to know?

I am passionate about health, particularly mental health, and continue to learn, listen, and reflect so that I can support your healing too.

I am a member of the UK’s leading regulatory board of acupuncturists, the British Acupuncture Council, and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I am a proud dog mum to Dexter, a very arthritic but incredibly enthusiastic springer spaniel who teaches me to live in the moment.

I really, really, really love to ski.

In fact I love all things outdoors, and also run, hike, scuba dive, and horse ride.

I love to read, which is great because as an acupuncturist and a counsellor, the learning never stops….and the books are big!

My Values:

Continued Professional Development:

I strongly believe that the moment you think you know it all, is the moment you stop learning. In both my chosen professions there is always more to learn, and staying curious is key. I do a ridiculous amount of CPD each year to make sure I keep on learning so I’m able to provide you with the best care possible. This includes supervision, further courses, learning new techniques, reading ALL of the books, research, and much more.

Listening:

I’m a trained counsellor, but whether I’m providing counselling, or acupuncture, listening is key. I feel one of the reasons people are drawn to holistic treatments is that we’re not in a rush to get you out the door. I’ll listen to your health concerns, I’ll take a thorough health history, I’ll ask you questions, I’ll check I have everything right, and then I’ll devise an individualised treatment plan for you to address your health concerns. And if you want to offload while the needles are in, I’ll provide counselling too.

Honesty:

Something I see all the time in holistic health care, and it really annoys me, is people being sold packages of treatment they don't need, or package after package with the assurance, that with just a few more treatments, they'll start to see results. Acupuncture is a wonderful tool, but it can’t treat everything. If I’m uncertain of what the outcome of your treatment will be, or if I’ve not treated a condition before, and need to do some research, I’ll be honest and upfront about that. I will also refer you out if acupuncture isn’t the best tool to treat your condition. Above all else, I want you to get better.

Affordability:

Acupuncture is for everyone, not just those who are wealthy or have health insurance. That's why I keep my prices as low as possible. I also don't charge more for treating fertility issues. The only thing I charge more for is my cosmetic treatments, because it isn't healthcare, and I use more expensive needles and additional products during treatment.
