Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and fascia in the body. By using slow, deliberate strokes and focused finger pressure, deep tissue massage not only stretches tight muscles, it also improves circulation and helps to alleviate muscular tension that is often a side effect of stress and chronic pain. This makes it an effective tool to treat a variety of physical ailments such as tension headaches, rigid shoulders and tight muscles. Pressure will be tailored to your preferences.
Why choose to have your massage with me? I have over 16 years experience as a massage therapist, and a passion for making people feel better.
Due to the nature of my work and in-depth training as an acupuncturist, I have advanced knowledge of the body, and so tend to see a lot of clients with persistent muscular issues and injuries.
Each and every massage treatment is personalised to the client, rather than following a specific routine, and I often use a combination of sports, deep tissue, myo-fascial release, cupping and Swedish massage techniques, tailoring the massage to your specific concerns and my diagnosis. Using this combination of techniques allows for a multitude of issues to be addressed. Knots are teased out, circulation is stimulated to help with muscle recovery and repair, and to eliminate waste materials. Muscular adhesions are broken down using friction techniques, and muscle flexibility will be increased.
If a specific type of massage is required, or you would simply like to relax, let me know at the time of booking and I will be happy to tailor a treatment to you.
I recently went to Charlie for a full body massage having bought an introductory voucher through a JT Rewards promotion. I will definitely return and be happy to pay full price for treatments! Charlie was professional, knowledgeable and a great therapist - fantastic massage in pleasant and extremely convenient surroundings (being based at Lido medical centre). Would definitely recommend for target treatments and/or relaxation.
I have had both a massage and acupuncture treatments with Charlotte. She automatically puts you at ease and is very thorough and really takes the time to find out what your concerns are and what issues are causing it. Charlotte also spends time outside of sessions to undertake further research so the treatments are totally prescriptive to your needs. I always leave feeling refreshed and more balanced.

I take a unique approach to sports massage. Sports massage seems to be known to be uncomfortable, and something you endure because of the therapeutic benefit, but it does not have to be this way. The focus of my sports massage is not to simply apply as much pressure as you can tolerate. Pain during massage is counterproductive as muscle tenses up to guard against it, and the post massage soreness people associate with sports massage is often due to bruising and inflammation from tissue damage.
Instead I take a less is more approach. Relaxing massage techniques such as effleurage and petrissage are still used as it helps in diagnosis, warms and stretches the muscle, stimulates blood flow to help with the healing process and improve muscle health. Deeper massage techniques such as friction are then used to help break down scar tissue and muscular adhesions. Your response to these deeper techniques is closely monitored to ensure that the discomfort is tolerable and not painful.
Sports massage is hugely beneficial. It can be used before or after a workout or sporting event to help maintain the body, increase condition, prevent injuries, restore mobility to injured muscle tissue, aid in stretching, as well as boost performance and the overall life of your sporting career. It can also help prevent or relieve delayed onset muscle soreness and fatigue.
Cupping massage is the perfect treatment for athletes looking to enhance their performance, decrease recovery time, or those suffering from general muscular complaints.
Cupping massage has been adapted from the ancient Chinese art of fire cupping, a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine that is used as either a separate therapy or in conjunction with acupuncture, primarily in the treatment of muscular and joint complaints.
Cupping massage uses suction to lift the superficial and deeper layers of muscle up and away from the underlying structures, as opposed to compressing the tissue as occurs in traditional massage. The action of this suction, along with the rolling action of the massage releases restricted or contracted muscles, muscular spasm and pain. It encourages lymphatic drainage and myofascial release, and brings stagnant blood to the surface of the skin, increasing the circulation, oxygen and nutrients to the area, which in turn encourages the body's natural healing processes.
The rolling action of the cups feels like a relaxing deep tissue massage, and does not hurt at all.
Swedish massage is not only deeply relaxing but can also be incredibly therapeutic. It involves soft, long, rythmic kneading strokes on the top most layers of muscle, and addresses most of the major muscle groups in the body. Swedish massage can help release muscular tension, muscular spasm and aid muscular and joint pain as well as improving circulation, leaving you feeling regenerated, relaxed and revitalised.

Had an amazing session of acupuncture with Charlotte today. Even though my ramblings took her 20 mins over appointment she was still very attentive to my needs and got straight to the 'Point'. I felt very relaxed and listened to and energised at the end of treatment. I'd recommend Transform Acupuncture to everyone. Thanks Charlotte.
