Sports massage should play an important role in the life of any sports man or woman, whether suffering with an injury or not. It can be used before or after a workout to help maintain the body, inrease condition, prevent injuries, restore mobility to injured muscle tissue, aid in stretching, as well as boost performance and the overall life of your sporting career. It can also help prevent or relieve delayed onset muscle soreness and fatigue.
Cupping has become more popular in recent years, with athletes and celebrities alike realising the benefits of this healing therapy. From weight lifters to Olympic swimmers cupping is helping boost performance, recovery time, and general health. The effects of cupping can be seen below, in the dark to light bruising. This bruising lasts from between a few days to a week, and varies in colour depending on the level of trauma that has occured in the underlying tissues.
Cupping massage is the perfect treatment for athletes looking to enhance their performance, decrease recovery time, or those suffering from general muscular complaints.
Cupping massage has been adapted from the ancient Chinese art of fire cupping, a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine that is used as either a separate therapy or in conjunction with acupuncture, primarily in the treatment of muscular and joint complaints.
Cupping massage uses suction to lift the superficial and deeper layers of muscle up and away from the underlying structures, as opposed to compressing the tissue as occurs in traditional massage. The action of this suction, along with the rolling action of the massage releases restricted or contracted muscles, muscular spasm and pain. It encourages lymphatic drainage and myofascial release, and brings stagnant blood to the surface of the skin, increasing the circulation, oxygen and nutrients to the area, which in turn encourages the body's natural healing processes.
The rolling action of the cups feels like a relaxing deep tissue massage, and does not hurt at all.
Swedish massage is not only deeply relaxing but can also be incredibly therapeutic. It involves soft, long, rythmic kneading strokes on the top most layers of muscle, and addresses most of the major muscle groups in the body. Swedish massage can help release muscular tension, muscular spasm and aid muscular and joint pain as well as improving circulation, leaving you feeling regenerated, calm and revitalised.
Had an amazing session of acupuncture with Charlotte today. Even though my ramblings took her 20 mins over appointment she was still very attentive to my needs and got straight to the 'Point'. I felt very relaxed and listened to and energised at the end of treatment. I'd recommend Transform Acupuncture to everyone. Thanks Charlotte.
I recently went to Charlie for a full body massage having bought an introductory voucher through a JT Rewards promotion. I will definitely return and be happy to pay full price for treatments! Charlie was professional, knowledgeable and a great therapist - fantastic massage in pleasant and extremely convenient surroundings (being based at Lido medical centre). Would definitely recommend for target treatments and/or relaxation.
Professional Integrated Healthcare
I have had both a massage and acupuncture treatments with Charlotte. She automatically puts you at ease and is very thorough and really takes the time to find out what your concerns are and what issues are causing it. Charlotte also spends time outside of sessions to undertake further research so the treatments are totally prescriptive to your needs. I always leave feeling refreshed and more balanced.

Deep tissue massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and fascia in the body. By using slow, deliberate strokes and focused finger pressure, deep tissue massage not only stretches tight muscles, it also improves circulation and helps to alleviate musclular tension that is often a side effect of stress and chronic pain. This makes it an effective tool to treat a variety of physical ailments such as tension headaches, rigid shoulders and tight muscles.

I recently Injured myself, can I have a massage?
We do not recommend massage immediately after injury. All injuries should be seen by a medical practitioner, especially if you are not sure how severe it it is.
How often should I have a massage?
This depends on each individual and your reasons for massage. Provided you are not suffering from any condition for which massage is contra-indicated, people often find a weekly massage helps to control their stress levels, while others find that a monthly maintenance treatment works well.
Does massage hurt?
That depends entirely on the type of massage. Sometimes sports and deep tissue massage can be a little uncomfortable but in most instances should not be painful. Don't be afraid to let us know your massage preferences as depth of massage can be tailored to suit you. It is not unusual to feel a little post massage soreness the day after, but this soon passes.
